PoLAR is devoted to the anthropology of law and politics, most broadly conceived.  It publishes work that is distinguished by its innovative definition of problems, ethnographic orientation or theoretical outlook.  We welcome submissions of manuscripts between 4,000 and 8,000 words in length (including notes and references).

Abstracting and Indexing:

PoLAR is indexed in Anthropology Index, Communications Abstracts, Index to Periodical Articles related to Law, International Bibliography of the Social Sciences. PoLAR is also under consideration for indexing by Oxford University Press's Refugee Survey Quarterly, Sage's Criminal Justice Abstracts, Sage's Urban Studies Abstracts. PoLAR is now available in full text on Westlaw and Hein OnLine, two of the most important legal data bases.

Information for Contributors:
While manuscripts should not exceed 8,000 words in length (including notes and references), book reviews should be from 800-1,500 words. Prospective authors may submit manuscripts in one of two ways. You can either submit electronically via a Word or (RTF) document to Polar@law.wisc.edu or send four hard copies to the editorial offices of PoLAR. Manuscripts submitted to PoLAR must not be under consideration by another journal or have been previously published. Type authorship, institutional affiliation, complete address, phone number, fax, and e-mail; only the title should appear on the manuscript. Submissions of manuscripts should also include an abstract and at least five keywords. Consult style guide. Please notify the PoLAR editorial office by email if you intend to send a hard-copy submission rather than an electronic submission, and then send four copies to:
