AnthroSource Issues and Resolution Timeframes

AnthrosourceWe are very excited to report that following the AnthroSource re-launch the week of December 22, 2008, we have successfully resolved a number of the technical issues that arose.

First, in regard to linking from AnthroSource to full-text on InterScience, AAA and Wiley-Blackwell have completed work with CrossRef to make the necessary DOI (digital object identifier) corrections to allow links from AnthroSource abstract pages to InterScience to resolve correctly. This means that in addition to accessing full-text content as a PDF, members can now link successfully from AnthroSource abstract pages to the InterScience platform to access a bevy of new and familiar personalization features.

Second, we have also resolved the issue of AnthroSource to InterScience links (for Anthropology News and several other publications) that errantly prompted members to login again at InterScience. This was being caused by a licensing and online hosting issue internal to Wiley-Blackwell.  This means that members will not receive the error message asking for login credentials on the InterScience platform when accessing full-text.

Third, as part the AnthroSource migration we worked with several link resolver vendors (including Serials Solutions, Ex Libris and FindIt) with whom AAA has hundreds of mutual customers in those institutions that subscribe to AnthroSource. We have confirmed as of January 7, 2009 that all vendors that we worked with indeed have the necessary data to continue providing AnthroSource access to subscribers and that the information has been implemented.  This means that those accessing AnthroSource via their library's subscription have normal access.

Fourth, we have successfully implemented the redirect rule for bookmarked or existing links to the previous AnthroSource platform.  This means that article level URL links for the old AnthroSource platform now resolve correctly and point to the new AnthroSource platform.

Lastly, in regard to the AnthroSource search engine, we have worked with Wiley-Blackwell to make the necessary adjustments to allow searching by author without also entering a key word.

Along with our success thus far, there have been several glitches in the AnthroSource migration that we are still working to resolve. We are working to resolve issues with the AnthroSource search engine. Specifically, when searching by author, we are correcting the functionality to allow searching by author first and last name. We are also working to resolve the issue of full and complete results being returned when searching. We are aware that in some instances partial results are returned when conducting a search and suspect that it is an issue with indexing of content yet to be made available for searching. Wiley-Blackwell has confirmed that a fix for this issue will be in place by February 6, 2009.

Overall, we are happy with the progress made thus far on the AnthroSource migration and continue to work diligently to resolve remaining issues.
