Membership in the Association, its Sections and its Interest Groups is open to all individuals upon payment of the membership and a section. AAA membership is broken down into 8 categories- Professional Membership, International A Membership, International B membership, Student membership, Student Membership, Associate Membership, Retired Membership, Joint Membership and Life Membership. All American Anthropological Association members are required to have a section. The association has 37 sections and 6 interest groups.
