Annual Campaign

AAA has a history for producing quality programs that advance anthropology and allow for expansion of our research and teaching to new audiences. Program growth and development depend on the generous contributions of members like you. Make your contribution today.

Cast Your Vote Today!

It's time to vote. AAA has a new voting system. Everything you need will open from the AAA homepage, or you can log-in directly through AnthroGateway and once you have selected AAA candidates through that ballot, you will go on to the section candidates on those ballots (for those you belong to) where you will be asked to vote also for bylaw changes and in one case a resolution.

Annual Meeting Historical High
Thank you to everybody who submitted proposals for scholarly sessions at the 110th Annual Meeting this November in Montreal. The Annual Meeting Call for Papers is now closed. AAA received a historically high number of 4,510 submissions. Notice of acceptance/rejection will be sent in early July.

The May Anthropology News is in print and features a thematic series on energy and energopolotics. Thematic content is available online through May at AN's Current Featured News Page and the full issue will soon be available on AnthroSource.

AN Fall Themes and CFPs

AN is pleased to announce the thematic series for the fall issue are set. Renovation and restoration is the theme for October, followed by a series on funding in November. We'll close out 2011 with a series on the Peace Corps and Anthropology, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Peace Corps. AN is currently seeking proposals for essays in all three series. Details, guidelines and deadlines are available online. Proposals or questions should be sent to Amy Goldenberg.

New AN Website to Launch in September
AN announces the plan to create the new site anthropology-news.org. This added service will help members get more of their work, ideas and analyses published on a faster timeline. The new website is the first step in AN's long term shift to a news source about anthropology by and for AAA members. Read more on the AAA blog, including how to become an AN online contributing editor or columnist.

Change in U.S. Census Classification

AAA experts on Language and Social Justice from the Committee for Human Rights and Society for Linguistic Anthropology have been working with the U.S. Census Bureau for several years to spur terminology change in the tabulation of household language data. Through extensive communication with the U.S. Census Bureau and with the support of the Census Advisory Committee on the Hispanic Population, the U.S. Census Bureau agreed to eliminate the phrase "linguistic isolation" from its products issued starting in 2011. Click here for complete details.
