Anthropology News seeks contributions for a thematic issue on aging and the life course. In 2008, AAA welcomed a new interest group in this area, responding to the increased visibility of aging populations and their needs. Many regions are experiencing growth in elderly populations, or are otherwise involved with this issue through, for example, the migration of eldercare workers or reinterpretation of generational roles. Proposed articles may address a variety of topics related to this theme, including (but not limited to):
Kin and community relationships
Demographic change
Poverty and economic restructuring
Labor/employment
Cultural and linguistic heritage
Human and civil rights
Religion and ritual practice
Biocultural perspectives on growth and development
Gender and sexuality
Physical and mental health and well-being
Long-term care
Death and bereavement
We welcome commentaries, photo essays, interviews, news stories, teaching strategies and Field Notes articles.
Guidelines To participate, email a 300-word abstract and 50-100-word author biography to Anthropology News editor Dinah Winnick. Proposals for photo essays should also include five high resolution photos, each with a caption and credit. Selected authors will be asked to submit commentaries of 1000-1400 words, or shorter pieces for other articles types, by September 1. Proposal submission deadline: July 22, 2009.
