Call for Authors to Write Volumes in Ethnicity in Global Focus series

Highly-regarded reference book publisher ABC-CLIO is commissioning authors to write or contribute to a new 5-volume series entitled Ethnicity in Global Focus. The series is geared towards readers bringing little background knowledge to the subject, specifically high school and undergraduate students, and will provide general overviews profiling ethnic groups in various regions around the world.

We are currently looking for authors to write or contribute to the following three volumes:

Ethnic Groups of the Americas
Ethnic Groups of North and East Asia

Ethnic Groups of South Asia and the Pacific

Authors would be free to write an entire volume as the sole author, or write some entries and hire contributing authors to cover other entries in the volume. Co-authorship is welcome.

As a general structure, each volume will have:

Frontmatter: Table of Contents; List of Contributors (if any); Preface

Body: Introduction on Ethnicity in the region; A-Z entries profiling individual ethnic groups; sidebars.

Backmatter: General Index; Geographical Index. Each ethnic group profile will be about 500-2,000 words and will examine demographics, origins, belief systems, daily life, relations with other groups, notable artistic traditions, notable cultural institutions and figures, political events, and recent history. The total word count of each volume will be around 160,000 words.

Manuscript development to begin in 2009 or early 2010, with completion by August 2011. Prospective authors must hold a PhD in a relevant field of study. Interested parties may contact Kaitlin Ciarmiello at kciarmiello@abc-clio.com for more information.
